We will be working on our Website Throughtout the winter months so you may notice some duplications or some things that may not look quite right so please bare with us as we do these updates. We are working on some shopping cart changes as well as reorganizing some of the information on our pages. We are also adding some new and larger pictures to better help you make your selections. Many of the changes are behind the scenes and you will not notice them. Aslo we are working on a updating our print catalog and hop to have this completed by late Winter.

If anyone has any pictures of wildflowers that you would like to share with us and allow us to use them on our website that would be great. It seems that while everything is blooming here at the Nursery we do not take the time or have the time to slow down and take some pictures. And then when it comes time to work on the website we cant beleive we dont have a picture of a plant, or one good enough to put on the web.  Plant Spotlight

liliun superbum

Lilium superbum  Turks Cap Lily

This has been a customer favorite for many years, perhaps because it is a very versatile plant that works well in almost any landscape. It has beautiful orange flowers spotted with numerous purple spots, which appear during early to mid-summer; atop of a 4 to 12’ stem which has several sets of whorled leaves. When people come in to our nursery to purchase one of these they will ask where does this plant grow, and this is what we will tell them. It will grow just about anywhere; the ideal location is wet soil and ample sun. When given these conditions we have seen these beauties reach 12 – 14 feet tall with as many as 30 to 40 blooms on one stalk, and what a show that is. Now with that said that is not the only location you can plant them in, they will also grow in a shady area where they get dappled sunlight and the will still get 6 feet tall with 6 to 12 blooms per stalk. So basically the more sun and moisture they get the taller and more prolific they will bloom, as the shade increases and soil gets drier they will stay a bit shorter with a few less blooms. So as you can see they are very adaptable and a great plant to add to your garden. It will take a couple of  years for them to get established after you plant them, but if they like the spot you put them in they will form a rather large clump with many stalks.
Fall is a great time to plant these, and this time of year we recommend purchasing the bareroot bulbs. By purchasing these in the bareroot form you are getting a very mature plant that will bloom for you next season. Most of our bareroot bulbs are 6 to 8 years old and ready to put on a show in your garden. You can purchase these in a quart pot but this size plant is several years younger and will take a few more years to reach a mature height.  When planting the bulbs you will want to plant them fairly deep, about 6 – 12 inches deep. When they are that deep in the ground the moisture is more consistent and they will perform much better. We have a good supply of these this year but they are quite popular so get your order in today.
