Our Specialty is Wildflowers, Ferns, Native Orchids,

Trees and Shrubs

We are a family owned and operated company now in our 4th generation.
In fact, we are the oldest licensed Nursery in North Carolina, serving customers from across the U.S. and around the world.

We grow many of the woodland favorites to the common roadside wildflowers. Most plants can be purchased in the bareroot form or in pots. The majority of our potted plants come in quart size pots or we offer some plants in a 3" plug size. We also offer many different seed mixes for a more economical way to plant a large area.

Just browse through our web pages to see what we have to offer by using the links located on the left hand side of this page.

What's Going On At The Nursery Now And Other Related Items

Updated: April 15, 2014

“Never yet was a springtime, when the buds forgot to bloom.”
-Margaret Elizabeth Sangster

We, every one of us, are so thankful this quote is true, but honestly we have had our moments of doubt this spring. Yet as we walk through the greenhouses here at the nursery we see that spring has arrived, maybe not in full force, but it is here none the less. The cold nights and cool days since mid-March have caused our plants to stay warmly tucked away in the dirt a little later than usual, so it looks like it will be late April before things really wake up and come to life around here. If you are a Walk-in Customer, you should consider this if you prefer shopping by sight and color, but our greenhouses are turning the lovely “spring green” for anyone else that is tired of waiting and is anxious to get some gardening done. Remember, we are open 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays in April, May, and June.

Here is a list of the few brave “flower-souls” that have come up and that are sharing their blooms with us now: Trillium cuneatum (Toad Trillium), Viola sororia (Blue Violet) & pedata (Birdsfoot Violet), Polemonium reptans (Jacob’s Ladder), Dicentra eximia (Bleeding Heart), Uvularia grandiflora (Merrybells), a few Mertensia virginica (Virginia Bluebells), and, a springtime favorite Iris verna (Vernal Iris). It does a heart good just to see these tiny treasures and their beautiful colors after the grays of winter!

Shipping season is in full gear for our potted plants, while the bareroot shipping is all but over for this season for most of our items. We are busy with shipping on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the rest of the time with sowing seeds, and potting seedlings for our future crops. It looks to be a lovely growing season ahead, and we enjoy helping each of you, our customers, make the most of every season.

We know we keep saying our new website will be coming soon, but we promise we are closer to that happening than we have ever been. It is going to be beautiful and we believe it will be more user-friendly as well, so keep checking back here to see it. To each of you that have ordered this year, we want to thank you for each and every plant/root ordered! It has been a good season so far, yet there is plenty of time for more of you to order if you haven’t yet. Happy Spring to each of you with lots of sunshine on your face and dirt on your hands!

Naturally “Wild” Weddings

Do you have a wedding in your future? We may be able to help you make that day even more special. With the marriage of Rob’s Daughter last year, she chose to have a DIY natural Wedding, and we had the honor of providing and handcrafting real garlands, wreaths, Ceremony arrangements, and reception centerpieces especially designed for the outdoor setting she chose. It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful and dreamy day! So we decided to give our customers the same opportunity to add natural details to their Weddings and Special Events. We are making available our beautiful mountain greenery, handcrafted into Garlands, Wreaths, Centerpieces, and many more options to help you add a rustic elegant touch to your event. Please visit our Wedding Page by Clicking Here or call our office for more information.

We are continuously working on and updating our website. We do our best to keep the plant availability and growth stages up to date but as you might imagine these change quickly this time of year and we are also busy shipping so sometimes we get a little behind on this.
