Kniphofia ‘Early Hybrids’ – Red Hot Poker

Red-hot fire poker flowers, red at top, yellow at bottom. Deadheading will prolong blooming. After flowering the sword shaped leaves should be cut back by half to stimulate new leaf growth. Foliage can be tied up over crown to keep water from settling there and freezing.

Ligularia stenocephala ‘Little Rocket’ – Ragwort

Container friendly, dwarf cultivar with long-stemmed, heart-shaped, green leaves. Large conical heads of bright yellow flowers make a show. Likes cool, moist locations with protection from hot afternoon sun in the south to prevent wilting. Good for pond sides but requires good drainage.

Ligularia stenocephala – ‘The Rocket’ – Ragwort

These awesome blooms are long bottle-brush spikes of yellow flowers produced in abundance. Their leaves are light green triangular with coarse teeth around their margins. They are best when grown in cool, moist locations like pond sides with good drainage. They spread two to three feet.

Lupinus ‘Russell Mix’ – Lupines

A variety of colors bloom along tall 3 foot spikes opening from the bottom up for an even longer bloom time.  These fully hardy plants spread about 12 to 15 inches wide creating a bushy mat of bright green foliage beneath the bloom spikes.  It is a trouble free reliable garden performer.  A magnet for butterflies, long lasting in the garden or vase, and a great size for back of the garden.  They grow best where summers are cool.  A striking addition to your garden.

Lobelia siphilitica ‘Alba’ – White Cardinal Flower

This is very rare from the Great Lobelia which is varying shades of blue. It has white flowers and may only be increased from cuttings or divisions. It blooms for 4 to 6 weeks. It is important not to let evergreen basal growth be covered by leaves in winter

Monarda ‘Jacob Cline’ – Bee Balm

These have large red flowers that appear in tight clusters atop stocky, square stems. This is one of the most mildew resistant of the Monardos. Being native to eastern North America means they are easy to grow and they multiply quickly. They attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees to the garden. Foliage smells like mint when crushed and can be used in teas. They should be divided every 3 years in spring and deadheaded for more blooms.

Striking maroon-red foliage with a dark green underlay distinguished this Penstemon from other cultivars. Flowers are white with a tinge of pink.
